What does everyone use for a tool to unplug the feed accelerator on a JD STS?
Where do you store it on the combine? kvanness

I made a tool from barstock and a truck locknut socket. I store it in the space where the tool box is on the left side of the machine. Pictures tomorrow. IaAngus

I haven't plugged my accelerator since I flipped the blades. If they are rounded over it'll plug in tough beans easy.

What speed range are you in when you plug in tough beans?

Sure would be nice if the fast beater speed was variable and synced with the rotor speed allowing it to work better in a wider range of conditions vs. just the two that it works really well in.

Not a good picture. I use 1inch breaker bar and socket. Use the come along to spin it backwards. This pic was taken at midnight, should have quite a round sooner

I think Lankota makes an actual tool for it. Probably not hard to fabricate for the price sam57

I like the idea of a torque multiplier.

They function like a ratchet, correct?

Where is a good place to purchase one?

Not looking for the most expensive one.

I carry a 5' cheater pipe. Didn't have to use it this year thankfully, but 2015 wheat was a nightmare as it never dried out. Used it a lot then :)

Northern Tool has a Klutch with 3-1 reduction and 3/4" input 1" output.

19" tool length.

For $210

Best that I have found so far.

I built one out 4 inch pipe with 3 notches like Lancoda put 2 holes in for a crowbar to rotate it.Stored it on the ladder.Reverving with the nut will only break the nut loose.Changing the blades does make big difference in feeding, after reversing mine last year , big help , lm putting all new in for next year. I see that it is adaptable to the discharge beater.

That would be nice.

Looks like it has a square hole for maybe a 1" drive  breaker bar.

Is that correct?

I never realized the accelerator plugging was such a issue. I know some have problems with the discharge plugging but I guess it was all but the same piece. We never had any problem but ours is in the barn. Cant bring myself to throw them in the scrap

I have a tool from John Deere. Don't know the part number. Haven't used this ibn over 3 years. Newer STS machines have different 3 rib pullies and belt that has a lot more torque than original belts . Older units can be updated and greatly reduces plugs. Also I almost never need to unplug accelerator using the tool.

When I plug the accelerator I disengage thresher and quickly go outside and lower the tension lever for the accelerator drive belt. This prevents the belt from getting completely burnt as the thresher is still turning. Then I reengage thresher and reverse feederhouse to remove any material ahead of the accelerator. Next I put the engine at half throttle and climb outside and tighten the accelerator tensioning lever quickly. This usually unplugs the accelerator 99% of the time. Its much faster and easier than playing around with bars and wrenches.

Only plugged it 3 times.
Twice was because I was trying to clear the feederhouse with the engine at half speed.
Then the tool is at home and I am at the field.
Send someone to get the tool.
Need something that can be carried on the combine easily.
Do not like it in the cab because I do not want a broken window.

Thanks for the replies.
A Torque Multiplier would work nicely because I already have the Socket.
The "Lankota Tool" would be nice because it can also be used on the discharge beater.

"K&R Distributing" sells a really nice removable toolbox for combines along with a few other items.

^^^^^^^^^^^What he said. The only time I found this to not work was using a pickup header in swathed canola. It was a mess
